INDIA HAS THE 3rdHIGHEST NUMBER OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV IN THE WORLD

  • 21 Lakh people are living with HIV in India
  • 80,000 new patients were reported in 2016
  • 51% children and adults are not on treatment
  • 62% pregnant women living with HIV did not receive treatment
  • 2 out of 3 children living with HIV are not on treatment

In addition, funding to end AIDS globally and in India has decreased considerably in recent years. While as a nation we have made progress yet almost 50% of the affected population is still not on treatment. Hence, while we strive to cover this gap, the funding gap is making it difficult to sustain our current levels.

Due to resource unavailability, preventive and awareness related activities have declined sharply threatening to reverse the modest gains achieved and research suggests new cases are still substantial.

Approach
CarePrevent

Prevention is key to halting the spread of HIV. We undertake initiatives to raise awareness of HIV prevention, transmission, and treatments available. We educate people on HIV infections, through health camps and training. Counselling guides vulnerable communities to understand the importance of getting tested for HIV and helps make them aware of their options for a healthy living if they test positive.

CareCare

We help people living with HIV (PLHIV) adhere to treatment and educate them about the importance of taking medication regularly which can help them live longer healthier lives. We enable access to education, nutrition and healthcare, and counsel their children, peers and parents to provide the support they need.

CareEmpower

Being HIV positive is not an end to life and all its wonderful possibilities. We provide training for skill building, funding for income generation programs, and links to schemes to start small businesses like flower shops and tea stalls. We assist them with legal procedures and property claims, we also assist them in getting PAN card, voter IDs and other identity documents to enable access to government social welfare schemes.

Who We Are

Hosted by India HIV/AIDS Alliance END AIDS INDIA CAMPAIGN raises funds and awareness to combat the spread and persistence of HIV in our country, through community interventions implemented by the campaign's NGO partners. The campaign IS contributing to the efforts to end AIDS in India by 2030 and reach the goal of ‘ZERO Impact’:

ZERO AIDS-RELATED DEATHS

Access to vital care and treatment can end AIDS-related deaths, but unfortunately, more than 50% of people living with HIV are not on treatment.

ZERO NEW HIV INFECTIONS

We aim to put an end to new HIV infections by increasing awareness and building capacities to reduce the risk of the spread of the virus.

ZERO STIGMA & DISCRIMINATION

People living with HIV are often cut off from their families and left to fend for themselves.

We envision an India where people living with HIV and those v ulnerable to infection are able to lead healthy, stigma-free lives.
